Last week the K. Sidrane, Inc. team was lucky enough to escape the cold in New York for a couple of days to attend this year’s edition of DScoop in sunny Phoenix.
We met with other label printers, direct mail and marketing companies and larger format printing companies to learn about the latest in HP technology and the innovation happening throughout the industry.
The weather wasn’t the only bright spot of the week. The variety of speakers and specialized sessions provided our team with enough “inkspiration” to last all year.
Imagine was the theme of this year’s conference, and that we did for three full days with DScoop’s energetic host, mentalist Lior Suchard. The mind-blowing accuracy of his mentalist capabilities astonished at every turn, and added a fun entertainment factor to the program.
One of the highlights of this experience is the incredible panel of motivational speakers brought in by DScoop. This year, kicking off the conference was Billy Beane, subject of the book/movie Moneyball and one of the owners of the Oakland A’s. After joking about being on a first name basis with Brad Pitt, Beane gave an empowering talk about how sometimes changing your perspective is the most important step to success.
John Foley, former Blue Angel pilot, used to fly fighter jets for show at incredible speeds and angles, including at times being just 18-inches away from a fellow pilot in the air. Foley spoke about the power of team building, trust and a positive attitude. All of the attendees were inspired by the Blue Angels’ signature phrase, “glad to be here.” Former head trainer at Disney University, Doug Lipp, offered the crowd some insider tips on how employees at the “Happiest Place on Earth” are trained to make sure that Disney upholds that reputation. Each suggestion was one that could be adapted into any business to keep employees on the right track and customers satisfied.
The chance to mingle with other label printers from across the US and even around the world is not one that comes around often. As a team-building exercise, we got to build brand new bikes with people from companies similar to our own. Our team enjoyed learning about the obstacles faced by other label printers and exchanging insights on where the industry is headed. At the end of the session, children from the Boys & Girls Club in Phoenix even came to pick out their brand new bikes in person, which was a special surprise for everyone involved.
“I love attending DScoop because it gives myself and my management team the chance to step back a little bit from our day-to-day to reset our perspective and gain a refreshed mindset on the work we are doing,” said Neil Sidrane, K. Sidrane’s CEO. “Attending DScoop is just one of the many ways we as a company are able to stay on top of what is new and exciting in the world of printing and packaging.”
The event culminated with a celebration on Friday night, featuring The Blues Brothers band with Jim Belushi, cocktails, food and photo booth fun—as pictured. We are already looking forward to next year’s event!
